Chuva medida pelo sinal do satélite
Rainfall measured from the satellite signal
Every satellite link loses signal when it rains. Instead of treating that as noise, two chained XGBoost models read the link's noisy SNR and geometry minute by minute and turn the antenna into a rain gauge: one detects the rain event, the other estimates the intensity in mm/h, across 4 stations and 5 frequencies. A data audit uncovered columns that gave the target away by formula, and they were deliberately left out of the model.
Outcome: 0.48 mm/h error versus 5.04 for the analytical inversion of the ITU-R recommendations, ten times lower, with 0.997 F1 on event detection, measured on 90k test minutes the model never saw.
